Makamaya records 25 deaths in two months

Makamaya section consisting of Kasansa, Kasasie, Kama-konta and Kabonka Villages in the Fadugu Chiefdom, Koinadugu District are said to have recorded twenty-five in the months of November and December last year.

According to the village tribal head, Sheka Kallon, the lack of health centres, and lack of motor able roads to access the 32 miles health centres in Biriwa Chiefdom are the cause.

Many sick patients died on the way due to lack of commercial vehicles in the chiefdom. We use hammocks to carry our sick ones to the only Government Health Centre in the Biriwa Chiefdom, Sheka Kallon said.

He pleaded with the Government and other international organisations to help the Makamaya section with basic amenities to help improve their living standards.

The Tribal Headmen expressed big disappointment on the current Honourable Member of Parliament, Hon. Philipson Kamara who in their words has never visited the Makamaya section to discuss issues and problems affecting the community.

Responding to the cry of Makamaya, Councilor Michael Bobson Koroma of Ward 160 in Constituency 47 Fadugu Chiefdom in the Koinadugu District said a total of 300 nurses are currently on training in Kabala and will be posted to areas where health services are not accessible.
