Making sense of the ‘Million Man Thanks and Patriotic marches’

Sierra Leonean traders and exporters on Saturday March 24th filled the streets of the capital Freetown in rallies taking off from Up-gun roundabout to the National Stadium in a ‘Thanks’ march showing how grateful they are to President Ernest Bai Koroma. The rallies were well coordinated and saw traders leaving the various streets and moved peacefully to the National Stadium where they address President Ernest Bai Koroma.

President Koroma received thanks for being a productive leader, who is constructing roads and rehabilitating them across the country, a president who has revived the energy sector for the provision of constant and regular electricity supply in the city, boosted the country’s GDP to 17 %, encouraged trade investors who in turn have begun employing the populace, and above all is able to consolidate the fragile peace he inherited from his predecessor, Alhaji Ahmad Tejan Kabba.

The importers are saying thanks to President Koroma’s tax reforms which adjusted the cost of freights, scan, demurrage and clearance and for giving them also freedom of liberty to a free market economy that gives chance to competition.

The patriotic march as well that is going to be organized by the Patriotic Sierra Leone (P-SL) on March 31st, has advanced reasons enough as to how important the demonstration of nationalism and patriotic life would solidify love for each other in the country. Their theme: taking ownership for Mama Salone brings the opportunity to the door steps of Sierra Leoneans to be proud of their being born in Sierra Leone.

At Sierra Express, we make sense of these signal calls as better signs to tell that the spirit which once combined Sierra Leoneans is bound to surface once again. Sierra Leoneans have lost the culture of love peace and tranquility during the eleven years of civil war in the country. It citizens are getting back at it in a gradual process.

We applaud the organizers for a laudable initiative as times have passed in Sierra Leone when good works of leaders are not recognised with even simple thanks. We believe the country is moving to its positive mental attitude position the visionaries have been predicting. Thanks to the organizers!
