All Roads Lead To Ritcorp

Dear Editor,

I am concerned with the manner in which all government departments, ministries and agencies are now openly abandoning their former insurance companies to register with Ritcorp.

I am not really concerned with Ritcorp as an insurer as they have always shown efficiency which makes them one of the companies worth emulating. The concern I have is that Ritcorp is now a road to President Ernest Bai Koroma recognizing people and departments as well as companies. Are we saying that there is a new system whereby everyone should now register with a company where the president of the country is a shareholder?

I am concerned that there is a follow-follow pattern in which everyone wants to be seen where the interest of the president resides. Is this not another typical example of sabotaging the interest of other companies?

Already, there is a serious problem with insurance companies as all their clients have decided to move to Ritcorp so that they will be seen as the right ones for an easier road to the heart of the president?

We are appealing to the president not to encourage such a sinister motive. I will even suggest that Ritcorp has now become a sole entity in Sierra Leone that is leading the way.

What then should we lesser beings do when all roads lead to the president’s own company? If President Ernest Bai Koroma does not know, it is important that he does now.

Education Not Beauty Contests

Dear Editor,

I was amazed when I looked through the various programs in the University and even in Schools that are mostly showcasing beauty contests. Where is Sierra Leone’s education heading?

Now let us look at the system operating when it comes to extra curricular activities. First it is beauty contests and other entertainment issues like dances etc. Where are the writing contests, the Literary Debating Societies? What is the country going towards? Worse of all, there is no attempt by the Ministry of Education to sponsor such activities. I cannot blame them for relegating education to the ground. We all know that all those with money in Sierra Leone, including our corrupt ministers, send their kids to foreign schools. Even the president of Sierra Leone prefers to send his kids to schools in other countries. This explains the fact that a man with no interest in education has been appointed as Minister of Education. No wonder everything as far as education is concerned is in a total mess.

God save Mama Sierra Leone.
