African Minerals cyclists show concern for Salone children

African Minerals Limited continues to show its readiness to transform Sierra Leone. The company’s passion for underprivileged and marginalized groups in the country is being greeted as a major step in the right direction. It was on Tuesday 13th March 2012 management and staff of the company’s Head Office were assembled at Wilkinson Road to welcome four cyclists from a humanitarian group called ‘Tour de Leone’, after completing a five days cycling tour that is geared to raise funds for underprivileged children in the country. The funds raised from African Minerals’ staff are to support children under projects like HANCI’s UK Partners Street Child of Sierra Leone and the Magtbenteh Hospital in Makeni.

The four cyclists working for African Minerals have so far raised thousands of British Pound Sterling after embarking on a 320 kilometers, equivalent to 200 miles cycling race, using some of the toughest terrains in the country. The five days race started from Bendugu Town in the Tonkolili District unto Freetown through Ferengbeya, Makeni, Port Loko and Pepel.

The four cyclists include: Darren Chantler, Bruce Bester, Jerry Joseph and Kevin Walter. They have as team members and supporters, Francois Prinsloos, Neil Breda and Arti Adam.

Addressing AML Staff members, Darren said they want to support the children in the area of Malaria, HIV, yellow fever, severe malnutrition etc., he encouraged all those who want to support their laudable project to come onboard in order to save the lives of the future generation. He said even though they went through difficulties that included some rugged roads, hot burning sun, etc., they are happy that they completed the race.

George Kodjoe is African Minerals’ Head of Administration; he commended the team for a job well done. He promised the company’s continuous support in supporting not only underprivileged children, but also others that are in need of humanitarian support.

The entire staff members of the company wasted no time to contribute funds in order to compliment the Samaritan effort of the team.

One of the cyclists, Bruce Bester, dedicated the race to his girlfriend. He wasted no time in proposing to her for a fruitful wedding shortly.
