SLPP and defection crisis

The main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has maintained in recent days some news leads about a cross section of its members cross carpeting to the ruling All People’s Congress. Worse still are the reasons advanced by the leavers and the lethal responses of the opposition which reduces the level of seriousness the issue deserves –to a no serious thing, confidence.

The number margin of support counts in politics on individual followers and figures in the end game of stronghold ideology provides confidence in the politician and his threshold.

However, this is a bad omen to the politics of Sierra Leone having struggled to come out of a one party rule system which reversed all what the country should have gained in terms of advancing it democratic tenets.

We have seen situations attracting a good haul of opposition members whose excuses have been the scornful malice afore-thought treatment they are being meted with by members of the wining flag bearer. For example the creation of camps within the one family of members in that party is one bad thing which has tolerated sentiments. Following the sprout of nineteen candidates for the contest of flag bearer aspirant position in the November delegates’ conference, the campaign style created embodiments of loyalty and support for the various candidates’ camps.

More or so the losers have always complained about been muted by cabal of those whose candidates succeeded. The boldface has been the surface sweep weed to lay the past off, but the element of marginalization continues which has distasted the zeal of others who are now willing to work though regardless of whom they did support in their wholesome primaries.

The sad thing about such ugly development is that it gives the ruling party an edge to stay in governance ending up recruiting all active minded opposition members into their lot once again.

A good number of personality classes have gone out of the SLPP. Controversial figures and people with huge followers –the Fadikas and others

We at Sierra Express want to see democracy of multi parties stay in play to provide an alternative in choice of leadership for the people of Sierra Leone.

  • APC, not trbalistic when SLPP cannot win a seat in Port LOKO, Bombali and Tokolili. Give me a break . When a non Temne or Limba can head APC then you can spout the tribalim charge against SLPP.
The northern elements of APC are currently destroying SamSumana as they do not want a kono man to head APC in 2017.
SLPP is no more tribalistic than the current APC.

People defected from SLPP because they are opportunists. they have predicted that Ernest Koroma will win. with the lack of opportunities in Sierra Leone, I cannot fault them for theie decision.

please stop the age APC carnard and propaganda that SLpp is a tribalistic party.

  • If tribalism is the yardstick of a party then it should expect such movement. If development is what we yearn for, then such movement is not accidental. If people have a conscience to live with, then they should follow the dictate of their conscience. If a president is doing well for the country, then such a president has to have followers to keep him in the position.

  • We are all aware of the current defections. Sierra Leoneans polticians have always been amaleable. They hve always looked to the highest bidder. Due to the poverty and lack of opportunities, polticians are always looking to the highest bidder to butter their bread. Many former APC defected to SLPP in 1996.

What qualifications does Nyuma have ? Did he get a degree in the US like Bio? If SLPP loses the election in 2012 , how will he survive? So he joins Koroma who has been touted to win in 2012 and hopefully nyuma will reap bountiful rewards.

You are never going to stop political prostitution in Sierra Leone. All you can do is to let the political prostitutes know that they cannot fool the public.
