SLPP stronghold snub Bio

The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) flag bearer, Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio (in photo) was shocked to see a low turnout at Zimi in Pujehun, southern Sierra Leone, and birth place of SLPP Hon. Elizabeth Alpha Lavalie, Nyagniagorehen Gateway in the border south-eastern region of the country.

The SLPP front man was to have a function that many rumoured to be a political sensitisation meeting.  Only 40 people surfaced in an area populated by more than 900 inhabitants.  Our source said, Bio was to have passed the night in Zimi but disappointedly drove away to Jendema because of the low turnout.

According to our reporter in the area, Bio’s visit was closely monitored by his political opponents to see if he kept the National Electoral provisions or not to start campaigning when it is not time for that.

The Sierra Leone Liberia border town of Jendema has been a source of conflicting reports of late regarding voter registration malpractices and resistance by some persons on the grounds of citizen resident criteria.

However, the opposition have been crying foul over what they called the massive influx of persons from neighbouring Liberia and within the North and Western areas of the country.

Bio’s visit is thought to have had an element encompassing all which concerns the electoral process.
