VP infiltrates Maada Bio’s home town

Vice President Samuel Sam-Sumana last week concluded a five-day sensitization tour in Chiefdom headquarters and major towns in mainland Bonthe and Moyamba Districts in the Southern Region; with a stop-over at Tihun, the birthplace of the flagbearer of the opposition SLPP party, Julius Maada Bio.

In Tihun, the chiefdom headquarter town of Sogbini, Vice President Sam Sumana received a warm welcome from the Paramount Chief, Steven Bio, who in his speech expressed gratefulness to the government of President Koroma for bringing free health care services to doorsteps of residents of his chiefdom.

He said that the free health care has reduced maternal and infant mortality rates in his chiefdom and surroundings.

Paramount chief Bio surrendered support on behalf of his subjects and assured all that his people will unfailingly vote President Koroma and the APC Government in the soon to come general and Presidential elections come 17th November.

He self assuredly told the Vice President that his people would solidly vote for the APC to enable them continue its development agenda, which he said will certainly benefit his chiefdom immensely.

The Youth Spokesperson nevertheless appealed to the Vice President and government to empower the youths for future employment.

The Chiefdom Imam, Mwalimu pleaded for the Hadj Scholarships to be extended to Imams in the provinces and asked that Government lend support on towards the construction of their mosque.

The Women’s Leader, on her part asked that government support them with micro-credit facilities to enable them pay their children’s school fees.

The People of Tihun, in one voice, called on government to unfailingly construct the Mattru-Bo highway so as to facilitate the free movement of agriculture products.

Responding nevertheless, the Vice President outlined various development projects undertaken by the Government since it assumption of office in fulfillment of the APC Manifesto.

In the agricultural, the Vice President said, the Government inherited 135 tractors with only three in good working order.

“But the current Government has acquired 300 tractors with combined harvesters to boost agriculture in a bid to fight hunger and promote food security.”

“As for concern raised by the youth Spokesperson, Government has thought it wise to establish the National Youth Commission so as to address issues pertaining to youths nationwide.”

He said government is on the verge of bringing communication to the door step of Sierra Leoneans through the fibre optic project, which according to him, will make it possible for people to view television in every corner of the country.

In Moyamba, Vice President Sam Sumana informed all that it was the birthplace of APC’s most powerful leader, the late President Siaka Stevens.

He said people should not look at the APC as a Northern Party and as the Sierra Leone Peoples Party emanated from the initiative of Northerners.

In all the towns that he visited he was appreciated by respective Paramount Chiefs, in particular, those whose subjects are benefitting from the free health care services

They all in one voice pledged their loyalty and assured Government of their support in terms of peace and stability in their chiefdoms.

The Vice President later called on the people in all the areas he visited to come out in their numbers and register for the November 17th elections.

“It is your civic right and responsibility to vote during election,” he said.

According to him, the five years of governance is not enough to accomplish lined up developmental projects at all.

He therefore appealed to the people to reciprocate the good work of the Government as already highlighted to them and give President Koroma another chance to further his agenda in infrastructure, open Government Initiative, Agriculture, education, and the mining sector.
