Mohamed Bangura will come good says Neil Lennon

Neil Lennon has backed Mohamed Bangura to recover from a difficult start to life at Celtic.

The Sierra Leone striker is yet to score for the club in eleven appearances and hasn’t been involved in first-team action over the past few weeks.

The Celtic boss remains convinced the Sierra Leone striker can make an impact in Scotland.

Signed from AIK Stockholm for £2m in the summer, there was speculation that the attacker could be loaned out during the January transfer window.

However Lennon has dismissed those claims, insisting he has faith in the 22-year-old.

He told a number of national newspapers:  “It’s been suggested we’d want to get Mo out the door but that’s not the case at all.  He is only 22 and I’ve no concern about him.

“He has only been in the door for four or five months, but you know what it’s like, in this environment people judge you very quickly.”

The Hoops boss compared Bangura’s start to life in Scotland to Ki Sung-yueng who has become a key component in Celtic’s midfield.

He added: “Mo is more of a play-on-the-shoulder type.  He’s had injuries and he probably needs a bit of time.

“He’s like Ki Sung-yueng to a certain extent.

“Ki’s first season didn’t go as well as we would have hoped but he has blossomed now.  Mo is a talented player and I think he will come good.”
