President Koroma attends President Jammeh’s inauguration

President Koroma graced the occasion together with the President of Senegal Abdoulai Wade, President Aziz of Mauritania and the former President of Nigeria Gen Olunsengu Obansanjo. Also present were the Prime Ministers of Rwanda and Guinea Bissau the Foreign Ministers of Gabon and China (Taiwan), Members of the Diplomatic Corps and most interestingly of all, was the Former President of the Gambia Sir Dauda Kairaba Jawara (who President Jammeh as a military officer overthrew).
President Koroma and delegation were received and welcomed at the airport by the Vice President of The Gambia, High Commissioner Mohamed Kemoh Fadika, his deputy Haja Saidata Sesay, Head of Chancery Fatmta Kargbo, staff of the High Commission and a cross section of the Sierra Leonean community, which included the Sierra Leone Nationals Union in The Gambia and the APC Branch in The Gambia, displaying their banners with traditional music and dancing.
Delivering his inaugural address after taking the oath of office, with his wife by his side at the jam packed stadium amidst drumming, clapping and dancing, President Jammeh dressed in an immaculate white gown first thanked Allah and the visiting Heads of State and Prime Ministers, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, his government and the people of Gambia, for what he referred to as the will of Allah and his people.
Speaking on the theme – ‘Gambians united to build an economic super power’ President Jammeh again thanked Allah for his life and the peaceful situation in the Gambia. “My people you have spoken through the ballot box. I thank you for your support. Now is my time to do justice to the mandate given me to develop the nation in return,” he said.
President Jammeh pledged to take them to the promise land, as a reward for their support. “I will with the help of Allah make Gambia a world class destination, in line with my vision for 2020” he promised. According to Mr President the security of the Gambia will be boosted and that the necessary modalities have been put in place for uninterrupted supply of electricity and the provision of clean drinking water in all communities.
“All that is needed to achieve this” he observed “is just the collective effort of The Gambian people.” The Gambia he maintained has come of age and will no doubt stand tall in the international arena.
The occasion was followed by a Banquet, a wrestling contest, cultural show and victory celebration dance.
President Koroma took time off to meet with and address members of the Sierra Leone Nationals Union in the Gambia and the APC Branch Gambia. HE informed them of developments back home especially in the areas of road infrastructure, energy, education, agriculture and health and called upon them to be good Ambassadors of their country.
