London Mining at first national job fair

As part of its drive to boost the workforce in Sierra Leone, London Mining recently took part in a two-day National Job Fair held in the Atlantic Hall at the National Stadium in Freetown.

The decidedly noticeable London Mining stall, which among other things showcased samples of processed iron ore, the company’s medals of excellence, and an impressive Independence Trophy for the 2011 Inter-District Soccer Tournament, attracted the attention of a cross section of attendees.

In a highly informational slideshow, the company’s staff explained aspects of the company’s operations on issues ranging from construction to operations, and at the same time disseminated its corporate literature to prospective job seekers.

Speaking at the career expo Joe Squire, London Mining’s Human Resources Superintendent (Industrial Relations), hailed the event as a valuable tool for his department, and said it has created an opportunity that enhances his company meeting with potential employees and performing first interviews.

“For us,” he said, “it is a good opportunity for the team to collect resumes and provide information about general career opportunities as well as specific details on current openings. As an employer of choice and of equal opportunity, it is worthy having London Mining be part of such a ground-breaking event.”

The multi-employer event was sponsored by the Queen’s Knadira Group, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, and the Ministry of Youths, Sport and Employment.
