WASSCE teachers skilled to boost education

Teachers of the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) level in Freetown have completed training to enable them to identify the problems of poor performance at public exams.

The trainers comprised of respective Chief Examiners and other resource persons.

It is expected that similar training will extended to the BECE teachers and will commence Saturday 5th November, at the Government Rokel Secondary School in Freetown.

The training was borne out of the concluded Conference of Principals, which among other things was held to identify strategies that will boost education in the country.

It is disclosed that there are plans to extend such trainings WASCE and BECE teachers in the provinces.

In his measurement, the Chairman Conference of Principals, Mr. Slyvester Meheaax, who doubles as a JSS Principal of the Government Rokel, encouraged the participants to engage in team-teaching.

He said however that it is mandatory for teachers to access syllabuses and Chief Examiners’ Reports as guidelines as they teach the pupils.

He said with such a training the performance of the learners will improve.

That in the pursuit of quality education for all, the conference of principals has identified key stakeholders and has tasked them to into problems surrounding marking schemes and other loopholes.
