Bio’s appearance frightens President Koroma?

Hours after the announcement of Julius Maada Bio as the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Presidential flagcarrier, the political scenery of Sierra Leone instantaneously changed.

The ruling All People’s Congress (APC), without any delay, dreadfully engaged the public with words that vilified the elected SLPP leader.

He was tagged as a killer, a thief, and one who has promoted himself to the rank of a Brigadier in the Army.

To this, emerged the use of hard, strong and dangerous words against either political parties – SLPP and APC respectively.

Why all the political wrangling?  By observation, especially comments coming from the electorates themselves, it seems as though President Koroma’s appointments of a number of South-easterners as cabinet Ministers, which in itself was to win votes from that part of the country, seemed diminished by Bio’s political re-appearance.

It is a fact that a good number of South-eastern politicians have had appointments as cabinet Ministers in Koroma’s government on the basis that, with them, it is sure the APC will clinch votes in strongholds (South-east) of the SLPP come 2012.

Indications are that soon after the appointment of Bio as SLPP’s Presidential flagcarrier for the 2012 elections, the wind of change, which for a number of reasons had caused a split between SLPP supporters in the South-east, revolutionized and instantaneously brought to light huge and massive support for Maada Bio, a man they say is their brother.

Information reaching the desks of this press indicates that hundreds and hundreds of South-easterners have purchased a set of clothes (costumes) in preparation to respectfully welcome the homecoming of Maada Bio soon after fasting ends this month.

“Maada Bio is our brother, our redeemer and our saviour. Call him any name, we still need him and trust, he is our next President,” Prince Sandy in Bo accentuated.

“Even if the APC appoints J.B Dauda as Vice President, South-easterners will practically not vote for him, but Maada Bio.”

Bio has had the opportunity to occupy the highest office of state in Sierra Leone. He was chairman and head of state in the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC) government, but handed power to a democratically elected President in 1996.

On the other hand, the existing President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, after finishing his five year term, will inescapably be challenged by Maada Bio in the upcoming Presidential contest.

Both will expectantly challenge the other in the race for Presidency in 2012.

Who the winner will be, or not be, is nevertheless undecided.

But by the look of things, it is evident though that President Koroma and Bio have  the same chance of winning the 2012 elections.

Even though the ruling APC, on a number of occasions, accused Bio of murdering 24 Sierra Leoneans, they are yet to submit any proof that directly lays the blames against him.

Existing tensions observed in the political showground in Sierra Leone gives an indication that there is panic from among the chain of command of the APC.

That although supporters of the ruling APC degrade Maada Bio, it is implicitly suspected that the leadership of the APC is in fright.
