6 to Sierra Express Media award

The Sport Department of Sierra Express Media (SEM), today Friday 15th will award six football stakeholders at its office at No. 13 Pademba Road, Freetown.

The award is centered on continuous and significant contributions of certain football stakeholders in Sierra Leone.

The awardees include Fred Claye of Mediatel and Hummel, Abubakarr Sweet Kay Kabba one time administrative secretary for SLFA, Abubakarr Kanu also known as ABK of Kalleone Radio, George Nelson-Williams the CEO of Armani FC,  Nasser Ayoub former Vice Chairman East End Lions football club, human right activist and a member of the Young Men Sports Club (YSC).

In his measurement, SEM Sport Reporter Prince Scott said the award is meant to motivate stakeholders, who on a number of occasions have surrendered support in the development of football in Sierra Leone.

“The forenamed awardees will today receive certificates, which by all indications, shall serve as credit to their laudable and worth rating contributions in the augmentation of football in the country generally,” Prince stated.

“Just as newspapers and radio stations in England, France, Germany, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, and Spain are known for honoring coaches, players or teams for their contributions in the promotion of football, we at the Sierra Express Media want the same done to football contributors in Sierra Leone.”

“The initiative of Sierra Express Media,” he said, “will serve as example to sport journalists countrywide. “It is my wish to see other media outlets emulate the stance of Sierra Express Media in the promotion of Sierra Leone football.”

He noted however that the selection of respective awardees was compiled by a combination of the readership of the newspaper with the remaining 40% by SEM Editor Mr. Ibrahim Samura, SEM CEO, Adeyemi Paul and SEM Sport Reporter Prince Scott).

Prince also disclosed that Sierra Express Media will be hosting sports achievement awards in December this year.

The awards are aimed at identifying actors in the football family who have played a key role in the development of football in Sierra Leone and will also cater for both local and foreign based Sierra Leonean players.
