The article “IS KONO A FIEFDOM WITHIN THE REPUBLIC OF SIERRA LEONE???” is unfortunate and unfounded.

As for persons that were following with keen interest, development in the Kono District, so to say, conducts of Vice President Sam Sumana, it makes to say that the Vice President has done nothing to unite and develop the Kono District.

For the information of the writer and the general readership, shortly after the assumption of office by Vice President Sam Sumana, he hosted a day’s retreat at Jaiama in the Nimikoro Chiefdom Kono District on the theme “Change, unity and development;” which to him and his people was to address the concerns and way forward of Kono people.

The retreat attracted hundreds of Kono descendants including veteran journalists, technocrats, politicians, traditional rulers, students and stake holders to brainstorm on issues ranging from socio-economic, laws and order, peace building and conflict resolution, culture and tourism promotion and youth employment.

Under the chairmanship of the Vice President, participants adopted several resolutions and suggestions on the way forward for the development of the district.

The outcome of the group’s deliberations on socio-economic issues which were centered on youth unemployment, agriculture and food security, electricity and water supply, education, infrastructure and health among others have apparently beginning to yield positive results.

Another major step towards the unity of the district was the Vice President’s engagement in the launching of the Kono Development Union (KONDU); now seen as a step in the right direction nay bringing unity and peace from among the Konos.

At the launching, the Vice President reaffirmed his commitment to development and spoken the need for indigenes of the District to put politics and individual indifferences aside and come together to move the district forward.

Since these meetings, there has been developmental at happenings at respective areas including electricity- the installation of a new plant, hospitals and roads rehabilitation etc.
