Windfall for tennis fans

Scores of lawn tennis players Saturday 4th were at the opening of a magnificently constructed modern tennis court at Malama in the west end of Freetown.  The financier and brain child of the constructed project, Ambassador Dauda Tombo Bangura, in an interview with the Sierra Express Sports said it is his dream to encourage young Sierra Leonean talents into sporting activities.

To him, tennis unlike other sports has not received the required support it deserves.

In his view, despite the numerous benefits the tennis provides in relation to career, health and national image promotion among others, it is wrongly regarded as a sport chiefly meant for the haves.

In his bid dispelling negative perceptions of society, Ambassador Dauda Bangura  said most tennis stars hail from poor backgrounds and that he sees no reason why Sierra Leoneans should shy away from it.  He therefore urged government and its development partners to boost tennis at all levels.  The new court, he said, has coaching facilities as well.

In his path, a veteran lawn tennis player, Dr. M.A. Mansour, described the newly constructed court as good and calls on tennis loving Sierra Leoneans to support efforts of Ambassador Dauda Bangura.  “This will not only lure the youths into playing tennis, but bring veterans together to socialize”, he stressed.

Thaima Sesay, the man who built the lawn expressed delight seeing his work applauded by respectable persons of society.  He urged other estate owners to espouse the good example of Ambassador Dauda Bangura.
