IMC judgement on Unity Radio

The High Court has dismissed the Appeal lodged by the SLPP against the Independent Media Commission (IMC) over the withdrawal of its licence to operate Unity radio.

It may be recalled that in July 2009, following the threat to the country’s peace and stability as a result of the activities of the SLPP’s Unity Radio and the APC party’s We Yone Radio, the two radio stations were suspended by the IMC and their licences withdrawn.

The SLPP filed an Appeal to the High Court which has now been dismissed following several hearings, on the basis that there was not sufficient evidence before the court to support the grounds of the Appeal.

The Court further ordered that costs of Le500,000 be paid to the IMC.

Issued by the Board of the IMC.
