140 Students In Njala University Under Fire

The Njala University College continues to manifest problems of mass failure with the Information Technology Department being the latest to prove this dismal output.

From the  final release in the IT Department dated for Friday, 30th October 2009, out of  310 students, 140 students failed out rightly with poor grades. Head of  IT Department Dr. Issa Fofanah in an interview said  they have a requirement that no students should go below 3.9 percent, as it will result in being sent out of the institution.

“We have decided to send them out of the college because they did not get the required grade,” he said.

The mass failure also affected the ordinary National Diploma Department, as well as the Higher National Diploma.

The universities authorities have disclosed the output of the students did not encourage the administrative and this has resulted in the decision to send them out of the university system. “There are certain students who are ineligible to be part of their university,” Dr. Fofanah said.

The student representatives for that department who asked not to be named said most of the failure was caused by the poor performance of students, saying they are not serious over their work.

The student representative also spoke on the aspect of registration in the University which he said has resulted in people not fit for entry being allowed into the university. “The authorities should take this matter into consideration as sectionalism, regionalism, political affiliations and tribalism is practiced by some university authorities.

One student Ibrahim Kamara, who got distinction in his result said there is no reason to blame any lecturer or college administrator, but the students themselves, “because it is not the responsibility for lecturers study for them, but to lecture them,” Kamara said.
