Umaru Fofana’s trophy semi final…Print 0, Electronic 2

As a way of bringing members of the Fourth Estate together, the Friends of Africell in the Media organized a football gala as the official opening of Umara Fofana’s Trophy brought SWASL a narrow victory 1-0 over opponent’s SLBC on 16th April 2011.

SLAJ President offered Le 50,000 to goal scorers as he has so far dished out Le 150,000 for three goals scored in the gala.

However, the semi-final encounter between the Electronic Media and the Print Media ended 2-0 in favour of the Electronic Media played on Sunday 17th April, 2011 at the National Stadium Practicing Field.

It was a water-tight encounter as the said teams, having learnt from the previous showdown, strived to gain possession of the up front and thereafter the six yard box area to get an early goal and more precisely the One Million cash prize and trophy award as the runners-up will take home Le500, 000 cash.

In the early minutes of the first half, the Print were more   composed and willing to sacrifice their personal advantage whether even to remain indifferently. On every kind of pretext, they were positioned to think of a way round every difficulty to tap the indelible opportunity that will enforce them strike their opponent very fiercely.

It all broke from a deep surprise when the Electronic striker, Mohamed Bangura, succeeded by netting a goal in the 27 minutes of play.

The decision to change certain players noticed to be the problem having been rectified by a majority vote in the recession period, the Print dug into the second half with the intent to pile pressure to take back their advantage.

With hard efforts, the Electronic managed to formulate their own thoughts to gain a straight victory as Mohamed Bangura,    running down again, received a free kick and put in a thunder shot in the 78th minute, which surmised the entire match.

SWASL and the Electronic Media will set the stage for the grand final on 22nd April, 2011, another do-or-die match at the same venue.

On 24th April, 2011 there will be a big time carnival as the first two hundred people will each receive an Africell Football just for an individual to buy a drink of his/her choice at the Atlantic Beach, back of Beudu’s Guest House, Lumley wherein the winning prizes will be presented to winners and runners-up.
