Mayor’s corruption – a talk show
Sequel to leaks by Sierra Express Media that the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) invited city father, Mayor Herbert Williams for questioning on a number of issues linking him to corruption, our reporter caught up with citizens on the streets of Freetown to sound their heartfelt opinions.
Miss Mabinty Demba Shaw of Sander Street said she lends credence to whistle-blowers; more so media practitioners, for letting out information that reveals ACC’s investigation of the Mayor of Freetown.
She furthered that ACC’s questioning of Mayor Herbert Williams authenticates claims by city residents that the Mayor of Freetown has had his hands dipped into serialized corruption overindulgence.
“To me,” she said, “I personally viewed it as an opportunity for the Mayor to prove himself of allegations of corruption and impropriety as always preached against him.”
A political analyst, in the person of Dr. Sama Banya of Sumaila Town, in his comment relayed to our reporter that ACC’S Probing of the Mayor of Freetown is never a surprise at all; consideration of touchy comments of inhabitants of Freetown on the stewardship of whom they say is their Mayor needs looked into – the Clock Tower, Sewa Ground Market, Freetown Waste Management, Morgan Heritage Concert and a host of other questionable conducts.
“With the trust I hold for the ACC, it is expected that they will not drag feet over issues continually raised,” he said.
John G. Turay, a resident of New England Community lavished kudos for the ACC. According to him, “the ACC is seemingly demonstrating that all and not one is unequal before the law.”
“If high and big-name politicians, civil servants and business operatives have been dragged by the ACC for corrupt practices,” he said, “the Mayor is no exemption and should be investigated and if found culpable punished.”
“Of course, I am sure his questioning by the ACC would not be unconnected to his refusal to give a financial statement since his taking over of office.”
Others interviewed reiterate that the ACC attaches importance to serialized corruption allegations it now investigates the Mayor for.
