Immigration generates Le1.6 billion in two months

At a well attended press conference held Wednesday 7th at the headquarter office of the Immigration Department, the Human Resource and Administrative Manager, Alusine Jaoque, disclosed how the Immigration Department generated Le 1.6 billion between January and February respectively.

He said also that the department is mapping out strategic plans aimed at improving immigration facilities to conform to international immigration standards.

He furthered that for western area alone, the Immigration department in 2010 fiscal year generated Le4.6 billion.

He highlighted major activities undertaken by the department. These included the training of border patrol immigration officers which lasted for two months.

In his contribution, the Acting Chief Immigration Officer, Ansumana Marrah said the press conference was not intended to respond to a recent radio programme aired at the Citizen Radio involving one of their personnel, but to highlight major developments initiated under the dispensation of the new Immigration Chief Kholifa Koroma.

He cited some key challenges facing his department which he described as purely internal, noting that some staff members had evil intentions to undermine the operations of the department.

The Acting Chief Immigration Officer took time to explain some of their achievements which have given the department a facelift over the years; mentioning the introduction of internet and website facilities for the department.
