APC Councilor in Le19 M scam
The chairperson of the Social Services Committee in Freetown City Council, Councilor Winifred Cummings, who resides at Ginger Hall, is said to have swindled a whopping sum of Le 19 million. Last month, being the vocal person at the Freetown City Council for the International Labour Organization (ILO) for sensitization of Freetown public on the aspects of human rights in respect of child labour, she received the sum of Le 19 million.
This money was supposed to be used to do radio, television, as well as using the print media to promote aspects of the dangers of child labour, and also to take into consideration the recently launched Freetown City Council by-laws which dealt with the very important aspect of child labour, etc.
According to one of the stakeholders who had been sent a letter to participate in a discussion program on child labour some weeks back, that person said that the sensitization programs have not materialized.
Furthermore the gentleman said that the launching which was done by Councilor Winifred Cummings was nothing to write home about, absolutely no journalists were invited to that launching at the FCC. Those who were invited were absolutely not relevant to the program and the number did not exceed 50 people. Some were promised the sum of Le 5,000 each at the end of the program, and even that councilor Cummings failed to give them. She is now being challenged by some members of the public through this medium to produce evidence of clips, and newspapers which she utilized for the publication of child issues. As a matter of fact no jingles on child matters have been heard on any of the FM stations, and no meetings after the dull launching have been held to educate any one.
This matter has been brought to the attention of Mayor Herbert Williams but so far no action has been taken by him and it looks as if there is a clear conspiracy surrounding the wrong of the bulk of this money.
Some children who are aware of the ILO funding, and other stakeholders, are now calling the president to get councilor Mrs. Cummings to produce the money and bring in other members of the Social Services committee in council, as well as other relevant departments, to do the sensitization in a proper and beneficial manner.
The attention of the ACC has also been drawn to this serious corrupt practice which alone will help to preserve the rights of the street child in Freetown with regard to the gross violation of labour rights.
Over to you HE and ACC.
