President Koroma commissions the Ernest Bai Koroma Stadium at Newton

President Ernest Bai Koroma today commissioned the Ernest Bai Koroma Mini Stadium named after him in Constituency 95, being represented by Hon. Claude Kamanda in Newton, Koya Rural via Waterloo.

Welcoming the President and his delegation to the epoch occasion, Councilor Doris Harding of Ward 334 welcomed the President and entourage to her Ward. She referred to the day as a big blessing to the Ward, being it is the second project that the President Koroma has commissioned in the Ward since taking up office, as Head of State.

Chairman for the occasion Alhaji Bangura said the Ernest Bai Koroma Mini Stadium and Fence Corner Stone Laying is a big history making in the Rural District. The project, he said is the vision and promise of Hon. Claude Kamanda that has been turned into reality.

He affirmed that Local Institutions must be strengthened for capacity building that is part of the President’s ‘Agenda for Change’.

He informed that the project is divided into three phases. Phase one has to do with the construction of the soccer pitch, valley and basket ball lawns. Phase two-the construction of the Fence and Phase three, the construction of the Pavilion. He added that the fencing will cost Le 50M.

However, he noted the Stadium will at its present state be handed over to the President for onward construction completion

Alhaji Alimu Awoko representing, the Sierra Leone football Association and the Western Area Football Association pledged total support and vowed to embraced the project and will recommend it to FIFA for funding.

He pledged $5,000 to the project.

The National Coordinator of the 50th Independent Anniversary Committee, Balogun Koroma commended Hon. Claude Kamanda for what he described as a laudable venture and referred to both The President and Hon. Claude Kamanda as Risks Calculated Leaders.

‘This is a year of Jubilee in line with this year of Implementation, as jubilee is referred to as God’ time for positive Change” He said.

Statements were also made by Chairman Parliamentary Committee for Sports Hon. Nuru Deen,  Yillah, Minister of Sports Paul Kamara, The Chairman Western Area District Council Allasan Cole and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Chukuma Johnson.

Delivering his Statement, President Koroma said the day is a big day for himself, Constituency 95 and the people of Ward 334. This project he said is in line with his vision for the nation, noting that this is what is being fought for at national level being manifested at local level.

He commended the workers for a job well done, saying that the facilities would be good for everyone especially for the youths.

The stadium, he said can do many things to transform the area and informed that the energy project, based in the ward will soon be launched. He commended Hon. Claude Kamanda and thanked the people for supporting the party and the government.

According to the President government focus is to develop the nation and that the MP’s work has impressed him. He promised to coordinate the Fund Raising for the completion of the stadium and that the project is a pride for everyone.
