Freetown 24th March 2011 – “Freetown Girls”, the latest single from rap artist “Paps” is set for release on iTunes and Amazon at the end of March. Fusing a catchy R’n’B refrain, syncopated dance hall beats and West African rap, “Freetown Girls” celebrates everything about the females of Sierra Leone’s capital.

“Bound to be a hit on the radio stations in Sierra Leone and even the dance floors of Europe” – The Global Herald.

Accompanying the new track is a fast, frenetic and fun B-side, guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. “Banana Them Want” goes all out for hi-hat, African melodies and a cheeky question for all: “What the girl dem want? – BANANA!”

Both tracks are the brainchild of Paps – a rap artist living in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Paps founded the Street Talent Productions label with the late Ed Sawyer – a British volunteer who had been working with legal aid charity Timap when he first visited Freetown. Since then, two albums and two singles have been released and Paps is currently working on a third.

Paps – street talent

Making music isn’t easy in Sierra Leone, the recording costs alone are many times the average monthly salary, but Paps is working all out to bring the sounds of the streets to radio, online and dance floors. Profits from the sale of the track go into developing new talent in Freetown, from singers and rappers to graffiti artists and dancers.
