Al-Aziz Turay initiates APC NA call for peace conference
Fellow APC Party members: I bring you greetings from the party headquarters in Sierra Leone and the APC administration in North America. I would like, at the outset, to inform you all that at an emergency meeting of the APC – NA executive on March 03, 2011, it was confirmed that the branch would hold a Retreat (Peace Conference) in New Jersey on March 19, 2011. In that meeting, all chapter presidents and executive members were requested to inform and encouraged their members to attend this peace conference.
The purpose of this conference is to give us an opportunity to meet face to face, interact with party members and government officials to resolve our differences and promote peace in our union. The administration has set up a team of facilitators who are entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the peace conference.
The administration through the appointed facilitators has made tremendous efforts in reaching out to all members including other persons of interest to work toward this goal. As chairman, my executive and I have been holding closed-door meetings almost every other day, in an effort to seek permanent peace in our branch.
In follow up to what already chapter presidents and panelists are doing, as chairman, I am inviting all APC members here in the U.S. and Canada to go to New Jersey and be part of history in bringing lasting peace in North America. I also encourage you all to channel you concerns and grievances to the APC – NA “Peace Conference Committee” either by phone or through the e-mail address provided to you in the forums. I want to assure you all that my administration will do all in its power to achieve the much needed peace in North America and then, protect the interest of our members and the APC Party in general. I am also asking all of you who have been vocal in providing ways to resolve our problems, to continue in that direction and make time to be part of this event.
Fellow members, in a letter sent to the APC – NA branch by the National Secretary General the Hon. Victor B. Foh; he indicated that the Hon. Dauda Tombo Bangura was appointed as a peace broker of the branch. However, looking at the current situation on the ground, we deem it necessary to excuse Hon. Dauda T. Bangura from taking active part in this process. This is not by any means to disregard the Secretary General’s letter, and Hon. Dauda Tonbo Bangura was made to understand the situation and he gave the event his blessing.
I want to conclude by saying that it is unfortunate we have this rancor within us but, I also want to let you all know that we cannot continue fighting ourselves all the time, especially as we prepare for the forth coming presidential, parliamentary and local elections in 2012. I therefore encourage each and every member to make it a point of duty to be in New Jersey and help in this process.
I now express my sincere thanks to the New Jersey chapter for its effort to host us in this historic event. I thank you all very much and may Almighty God reward you abundantly for your sacrifices.
