Symbolic Reparation in Nongowa Chiefdom

A symbolic reparation programme was held in Nongowa Chiefdom in Kenema district on 24 Saturday October 2009. In an interview with Rev Father Komba of the Cathedral Catholic Church in Kenema he said the symbolic reparation is a special way of remembering past relatives that were killed in the 10 year long rebel war.

According to him, the ceremony concerned the 172 people that were killed by rebels in the Kodebontihun section in Kenema in the year 1999 when rebels attacked Kenema. Rev Father Komba said as only 17 beneficiaries are on record, the entire chiefdom decided to hold a personal ceremony for their loved ones who were killed on that fateful day.

In his statement he said the chairman of the ceremony PC Vamgahu admonished the Chiefdom people about the dangers and after effect of the war and therefore told them to forget about conflict and think about development and peace now that the war has been put behind us.

Libation was poured and animal sacrifice was offered by the Priest and Imams followed by a candle light procession to Hero Triangle where verses of the Holy bible and Holy Quran were read.

In his statement the Mayor of Kenema City Brima Kargbo thanked all stakeholders for their endeavours to be part of the ceremony; emphasizing the essence of peace and the spirit of forgiveness which he said will foster growth and development.
