AML supports ailing chief to USA

African Minerals (SL) Ltd., the biggest mining company in Sierra Leone, has provided an air ticket to the USA and US $15,000 for treatment of ailing paramount chief Alimamy Kulio Jalloh of Sambaia Bendugu chiefdom, hailing from the north of Sierra Leone.  (Photo:  Mr Frank Timis, Executive Chairman, African Minerals (SL) Ltd.)

The 84-year old, who requires urgent but also very serious medical attention in the USA, said he was looking for help because of the huge cost involved for his care and cure abroad.

“There was nobody to attend to me. African Minerals is our saviour. Delco Mining Company came to our chiefdom but they abandoned us. Many years ago I went to Tokyo, Japan then as parliamentarian but our efforts to get investors to mine the ore deposit proved futile,” he recalled.

Until his abdication, he enjoyed a good working relationship with AML whose flagship iron ore project in Tonkolili is progressing.

The Executive Chairman of African Minerals, Mr Frank Timis,(in photo) told the paramount chief, and family members who accompanied him, that the gesture was a testament to the respect they hold for traditional leaders.

He assured the family and chiefdom representatives of his company’s continued support to the community and cooperation

Hon. Alie Sankoh, representing the constituency, expressed gratitude and explained his role in the whole process.
