Transformation Education Donates Cabinets to Schools
Transformation Education, a non-profit making Christian-based organization operating under the aegis of World Hope International, has donated cabinets, steel doors and windows, to 12 pilot primary schools within the Freetown municipality.
Handing over the items to the beneficiary schools during a conducted tour, the Director of Transformation Education, American-born Gwen Smith, informed that the donation was made possible courtesy of a grant from the Davis Project for Peace.
According to her, the objective is to provide the schools targeted with storage units for their book supplies, noting that one of the major constraints facing schools is the lack of storage facilities, which has in most cases resulted in book supplies being exposed to damage, lose or theft. She expressed delight that the schools have been able to effectively utilize the funds given to them to design cupboards of their choice and to use the remaining funds to replace broken or worn out doors and windows with steel metal.
Director Gwen Smith thanked Madam Marianne Kinny for facilitating the grant, adding that the donation forms part of her organization’s poise to improve the quality of education in the country, through mentoring educators in creating teaching environments with a Biblical world view.
Director Smith furthered that Transformation Education hopes to achieve its objectives by mentoring and supporting educators to develop character education, behaviour management, knowledge and approp
riate teaching methods used to meet the needs of learners.
Since its inception, Transformation Education has embarked on a couple of training sessions aimed at passing on valuable teaching experiences to teachers and providing a workable alternative to rampant and sometimes undeserving corporal punishment meted on school pupils.
She maintained that Transformation Education’s approach to education is in line with His Excellency President Dr. Ernest Koroma’s clarion call for attitudinal and behavioural change, which she said if adhered to, will not only provide a desirable incentive to improve the quality of education in the country, but also contribute immensely towards national development.
She assured the schools of more support and collaboration, adding that Transformation Education operates a resource centre and a wisdom house, where targeted beneficiaries go to acquire more knowledge through reading and for spiritual and recreational purposes.
Head Teacher of the of the beneficiary schools, Modern Elementary School at Tengbeh Town, thanked Transformation Education for the laudable gesture which he noted has provided them with a solution to their storage constraint. Mr. Samba Joseph Conteh who also happens to be Transformation Education’s Head Teachers Forum chairman, said his school is proud to be associated with the Transformation Education initiative, which he noted has broaden the horizons of teachers to new skills of ensuring effective and conducive learning environments.
The beneficiary schools include the Buxton Infants Boys and Girls, Regent Road Baptist Infants, Regent Square Infants, Regent Square Junior, Samaria, Modern Elementary School, Buxton Boys and Regent Road Baptist Junior.
Also witnessing the handing over ceremonies to the respective schools were the Director of Transformation Education’s Resource Centre, Mr. Saidu Sesay, Mr. Yusiph Sallieu Kamara of the Freetown City Council and journalists from the print and electronic media.
