Stage set for Sudan 2011 draw

The stage is set as the draws for the biggest tournament in Africa; The African Nations Cup is expected to take place at the friendship hall, Khartoum Sudan 1900hrs local time today Saturday 27 November 2010.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) headed by Executive Committee member, Mohamed Raouaraoua, will be leading the delegation that are already in the Sudanese capital to conduct the official draw of the second edition of the tournament designed exclusively for footballer playing in their domestic leagues.

Also expected to grace the events are officials from all qualifying teams for the championships. The 16 qualified teams will be housed into four groups of four teams.

As always it is a round-robin basis with the first and second place teams of each group advancing to the quarter finals. The quarter final winners will progress to the semi final with the eventual winners qualifying to the final.

Host Sudan qualified automatically whilst 15 teams emerged from the qualifying series. The rest are Algeria and Tunisia (Northern Zone); Mali and Senegal (Zone West A); Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Niger (Zone West B); Cameroon, Gabon and DR Congo (Central Zone); Uganda and Rwanda (Central-East Zone); Angola, South Africa and Zimbabwe (Southern Zone)

The tournament takes places from 4-25 February, 2011.
