Police cyber crime prevention unit formed

Police cyber crime prevention unit formed

A team of police cyber crime prevention unit and task force from the National Telecommunication last weekend at the Lungi Airport and its environs arrested retailers of SIM cards without registering subscribers.

This crime, according to the officer, does contravene laid down regulations of the National Tele communication Act (NATCOM).

In the team was Commissioner Ibrahim Kabia, Director Cho Ansu, both of the Consumer Affairs Department and Osman Larry Fofanah.

Amongst those arrested were Abdulai Jalloh, Salamatu Sakilla, Mohamed Kamara, Alimamy Sesay, and Sheku Suma.

Larry Fofanah sensitized members of the public on the purpose of the operation and reminded retailers to restrict their sale to designation outlet and advised GMS Operators on behalf of NATCOM to be mindful of those they entrust the sale of SIM cards as some agent are illiterates.

The suspects appeared in court on Tuesday and the matter adjourned to Thursday, 26th August 2010.
