NASSIT saves Salone once again

The National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) has once again come to the rescue of Sierra Leone. In ensuring progressive and sustainable infrastructural development in the country and in taking the lead in initiating national development, the Trust, Sierra Express can reveal, has taken over the rehabilitation of the long abandoned Bintumani Conference Centre, the country’s finest that was left in ruin during the 11 year brutal civil war.

On Tuesday, 3rd August 2010, NASSIT made the official handing over of the project to the contractors who, it was revealed, will speedily conclude it in order to rescue the country’s lack of better and modern conference facilities.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony for the building from NASSIT to the contractors, the Director General of The Trust, Mr. Sam Bangura Jr. said the building was established over 30 years ago but was destroyed during the 11-year civil war and since then the building has never been utilized. NASSIT intervention, according to Sam Bangura Jr. was the safest remedy to the lack of adequate conference facility the country is presently facing.

He reveled that what NASSIT plans to do is to have the place renovated to a state of the earth resource place that would be multifunctional, adding that the completion of the project will be another land mark investment venture of the Trust.

The rehabilitation of the conference centre, the director made known, will create job opportunities for the people and will be used as a centre for the 50th anniversary celebratory activities. He also assured that within 10 months time, Sierra Leone will have a first class conference centre and reassured that NASSIT is heading in the right direction by all means.

Joseph Mansaray, who is Chairman of Project Steering Committee, expressed is very proud of such undertaking by NASSIT as the construction company-Sierra Construction System (SCS) has a big responsibility to bring the project to speedy conclusion.

The Project Manager of NASSIT, Mr. Serray Timbo described the occasion thus, “today is a symbolic occasion for me and all Sierra Leoneans because in ten months time Sierra Leone will be having a modern conference hall which will boost the celebration of Sierra Leone’s Golden Jubilee.

Mr. Peter Kenah, Director of Public Affairs and Communication Officer of NASSIT revealed in his remark that “this building has been abandoned a long time ago but NASSIT wants to make it useful once again, a step he described as bold, proactive and innovative.
