The Union, which was formed about three years ago, has worked assiduously towards attitude change among herbalists in the country. The union president, Dr. Alhaji Suliaman Kabba, disclosed that about thirteen bad herbalists have been sent to prisons after they were found guilty of misusing the trade and unleashing untimely deaths on people for pittances.

He said they were working closely with magistrate courts across the country and through its ceremonial police to contain wicked herbalists who kill innocent people for small advantages.

The union’s attitude change campaign has attracted some Sierra Leoneans including President Ernest Bai Koroma who has mandated the union to continue its spiritual cleansing and protection of innocent lives.

According to Dr. Kabba, who has trained and practiced the profession in India, Syria, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, Burkinafasso, Saudi Arabia etc, Sierra Leoneans should copy from such countries that get the good out of the herbs either by learning or teaching the younger generation.

Dr. Kabba stated that he would help the country if supported by the public and government.

He has, however, established two traditional hospitals with 200 bed capacity at Ojuku Junction and Waterloo. He also runs a medical clinic at Calaba Town.

Shuaib I. Kanu, National Public Relations officer said they have registered, screened and certified thousands of herbalists that are specialized in healing different sicknesses and aflictions.

He assured the public that they would soon begin to arrest herbal bidders that misuse and abuse the profession by selling herbs without proper hygiene and care.

The union has praised the ministry of local government, the police and the judiciary for the successes recorded so far by it members.
