Media and Police bridge relations

President of the Sierra Leone Reporters Union Amara Samura has told Sierra Express Media about the 3 day workshop that was held in Makeni in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Police in a bid to improve on the already sour relationship between the police and journalists that has been boiling on for quite sometime time now.

The workshop he said carried the message of cordiality, oneness and common understanding and creating awareness that the police and  journalist one not enemies and must work to further the interest of the nation other than engage in petty blows that is of no use to the benefit of the nation the Reporters President said.

He however asserted that what used to obtain is that the police have been used to holding unto important public information from the public and so journalists were only left with the option but to go the extra mile to get the information which might not be necessarily be in favour of the police.

Meanwhile, President of the Union, Samura has expressed optimism that the workshop was quite an opportunity to establish cordial working relations between the media and police which he said is good for the advancement of public interest of the nation. He reiterated that the police must learn to accommodate journalist because without journalist their good marks remain under their feet, never know by the public or the world.
